Assistive technology is any item, piece of equipment, software program, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of our students. Assistive technology is used to assist our students in accessing academic curriculum, communication, activities of daily living (feeding, toileting), and motor skills.
At Pathways Children's School we strive to meet our students where they are and implement any assistive technology that will improve our students ability to independently interact with their world both socially and academically. Our assistive technology department is highly trained in augmentative and alternative communication, alternative access, and mobility and positioning. Our staff thinks outside the box to determine the most efficient access methods for our students to independently participate in all components of their school day. The assistive technology department provides training to all staff members which allows for the use of assistive technology to be implemented in all areas of the students school day to ensure the promotion of their communication systems and their ability to independently access their curriculum.
